Almost 1.5 years the East Java mudflow disaster happened in Porong Sidoarjo and it still not totally overcame yet. The mud scolding always comes out with the volume attain to 150 metric tons every day and flow far away. What will be happened if it still like that without any solution for the next 2-3 years or tens years later? Bambang P Istadi, Vice Presiden Technical Service of PT Energi Mega Persada (EMP) and Gatot H Pramono from Coordination Board of National Survey and Mapping (Bakosurtanal) have developed the simulation that result should be bewared for the future anticipation. According to the simulation, the mud overflow predicted to flood up to 832 hectares at the end year 2007 and the mudflow volume piled around 57.756.556 cubic meters.

In comparison to Bakorsultanal data up to May 2007, mudflow had reached 628 hectares with the total volume of mud piled around 37.324.748 cubic meters. It also predicted the land surface around the scolding mud will pile up to 20 meters and also predicted the subsidence 20.9 meters down. The prediction was based on the field measurement and Global Positioning System (GPS) monitoring survey started from June 2006 until February 2007.

Bambang and Gatot also have projection until the next 2, 2.5 and 3 years. According to Bambang analysis, for the next 2 years (June 2008) the land surface around the scolding center will pile up to 21 meters and some other part will subsidence 29.9 meters down. Then, for the next 2.5 years (December 2008), it predicted will pile up to 21 meters high and subsidence 39 meters down. And for the next 3 years (June 2009), the land surface estimated raising 21 meters and down around 47.1 meters.

Mudflow will reach 1.393 hectares with the total volume piled 118.607.813 cubic meters for the next 3 years. Refers to the map presented by Bambang, the impacted area will broaden to Kali Sampurno, West Siring, West Jatirejo, Villages inside east side of Tanggulangin District, Mindi and Villages inside the Jabon District on the north side of Porong river.

Expert prediction is confirming that the East Java Mudflow Disaster is getting bigger and bigger every weeks to come. We hope the Government will (again) aware how serious the problem and do anything necessary to overcome not just angry and pointed the forefinger to other parties. smilies/shocked.gif
